Best AI website builders for small business in 2026: the buyer's shortlist.

By the Ember team · Published · 12 min read

The short answer

Hostinger is the best AI website builder for small business in 2026 by our count. Hostinger, Wix and Squarespace each sell bookings, payments and an online store themselves, and Hostinger advertises the lowest monthly price: $1.99, but only on a 48-month Black Friday term paid upfront ($95.52), renewing at $10.99. Wix is second ($17 a month billed yearly), Squarespace third, Durable fourth and Ember fifth. Ember takes no bookings or payments, but writes and designs the whole site, from $9 a month. Prices checked November 6, 2026.

$95.52
Hostinger Premium, 48 months paid upfront on a Black Friday offer, then $10.99/mo
$17/mo
Wix Light on your own domain, billed yearly
$9/mo
Ember Personal on your own domain, with no yearly term

Key takeaways

  • Hostinger, best for the lowest upfront price. It sells scheduling with appointment reminders and Google Calendar sync, a store and payments. Premium cost $95.52 for 48 months on November 6, 2026, only during a Black Friday offer, and then renews at $10.99 a month. Its ecommerce starts on the Unlimited plan.
  • Wix, best for running the whole business on the site. Bookings, payments and an online store all come with Core, at $29 a month billed yearly. It is the only one of the five with a free plan that publishes, with Wix branding.
  • Squarespace, best for selling from a polished template. Every plan sells and takes payments, with a 2% store fee on Basic ($19 a month billed yearly). There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial.
  • Durable, best for bookings and lead follow-up. Launch ($22 a month billed yearly) adds unlimited bookings synced to your calendar, paid bookings and a CRM. Durable's own FAQ says it is not designed specifically for e-commerce.
  • Ember, best for owners who want the site written and designed for them. It takes no bookings or payments, so it ranks last on our count. Its cheapest plan on your own domain is $9 a month, billed monthly.

What an AI website builder actually is (and what it is not)

An AI website builder makes and hosts a website for you: pages, copy, images and the address it lives at. Every builder on this list does that much. Where they differ is what happens after the first draft.

Most of them draft a starting site and then hand you an editor. Wix creates a site from a prompt and you refine it with drag and drop; Hostinger generates a starting design and copy, then you fine-tune every page in its editor; Squarespace and Durable draft a site and give you an editor with AI help. The AI saves the blank page, and the design work after it is yours.

Ember works the other way. It writes the copy, picks a design suited to your trade and lays the pages out, and every later change is a request in plain words rather than a session in an editor. You review it; you don't build it.

An AI website builder is not an app builder. Tools that generate the code for an interactive web app, with logins, databases and dashboards, solve a different problem and leave you running the result. A small business site is a content site: what you offer, what it costs, where you are and how to get in touch. If a quick page or small app inside your AI assistant is what you need, Ember vs ChatGPT Sites covers that option.

It is not a store builder either, although some of these include a store. If selling is the main job, a commerce platform built around the checkout fits better than any builder here.

How we ranked these AI website builders

We read each builder's own pricing and product pages on November 6, 2026, from the US, and scored them on what a small business most often needs a site to do beyond explaining itself:

  1. Online bookings: the builder's own company sells a way to take appointments. One point.
  2. Payments: the site can take money, for products, services or paid bookings. One point.
  3. An online store: product listings with a checkout. One point.
  4. Ties go to the lower advertised monthly price of the cheapest plan that publishes on your own domain.

We also show, without scoring them, whether a free plan can publish, what the cheapest plan costs upfront, what it renews at, and how much of the site the AI makes for you. Those depend on what you value; the jobs above are yes or no.

We left two things out. Review ratings: Trustpilot's pages refused our checks on November 6, and a rating a vendor quotes about itself isn't independent. And GoDaddy's website builder, whose pages also refused our checks that day, so we could not verify its prices.

Ember makes this page and ranks itself fifth. On these criteria, that is where it belongs.

The best AI website builders for small business in 2026

Hostinger, Wix and Squarespace score 3 of 3. Hostinger wins the tie on price, though only on a 48-month Black Friday term paid upfront; Wix follows at $17 a month billed yearly and Squarespace at $19. Durable (bookings, including paid ones) scores 2. Ember scores 0: it builds and hosts the site, and leaves bookings and payments to the tools you already use.

Here is the last of them doing its job, so you can see the difference between a builder that hands you an editor and one that does the work:

Ember's product demonstration (1 min 15 s): an online nutrition coach describes the business, picks a design, asks for changes and publishes. It is an animated walkthrough rebuilt from Ember's own screens and designs, not a screen recording.

1. Hostinger Website Builder, best for the lowest upfront price

Hostinger's builder generates a starting design and copy from a description, then you fine-tune every page in its drag-and-drop editor. It comes from a web host, so hosting is part of the plan, with a domain and email mailboxes free for the first year.

The headline price needs a long term. On November 6, 2026, during a Black Friday offer, Premium was $1.99 a month on a 48-month plan: $95.52 paid today, renewing at $10.99 a month. It covers up to 3 websites. Ecommerce starts on Unlimited, at $2.79 a month on the same 48-month term ($133.92 upfront), renewing at $16.99. Every plan is paid upfront, with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 14-day free trial.

Bookings come from its Scheduling feature: booking-ready pages from a description or a template, automatic appointment reminders, and Google Calendar to share your availability and prevent double bookings. Its website builder page doesn't say which plan includes it, so check before you buy. With the store and payments, that is 3 of 3.

Best suited for: A business that wants the lowest total price and can commit to four years upfront. Someone comfortable finishing the pages in an editor.

2. Wix, best for running the whole business on the site

Wix creates a site from a single prompt and then lets you move between AI generation and its drag-and-drop editor to refine any detail, with more than 2,000 templates if you would rather start from one. One plan, Core, covers a business that books, sells and takes payments in one place.

Light, at $17 a month billed yearly ($204 upfront), puts the site on your own domain and includes a domain free for the first year. Payments, basic eCommerce and scheduling start on Core, at $29 a month billed yearly; Business is $39 and Business Elite $159. Displayed prices are yearly subscriptions paid in full, with a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Wix is also the only one of the five with a free plan that publishes a live site: it carries Wix branding and no custom domain, and a premium plan removes the branding. The cost of all that control is the work. Wix gives you the choices, and making them is your job.

Best suited for: A business that wants bookings, payments and a store on one site and doesn't mind building it. Owners who enjoy design and want control of every element.

3. Squarespace, best for selling from a polished template

Squarespace starts from its templates or a starting site from its AI builder, with AI tools built into every plan. Its strength is design: the templates are polished, and Core adds complete customization with CSS and JavaScript.

Basic is $19 a month billed yearly ($228 upfront) and already sells products and services, takes payments and sends invoices, with a 2% store transaction fee and up to 2 contributors. Core, at $29, drops the store fee to 0% and allows unlimited contributors; Plus is $49 and Advanced $99. Every plan includes a free custom domain for the first year on a yearly plan. Paying yearly saves up to 36% against monthly.

Bookings come from Squarespace's own Scheduling product, which its pricing page lists under its products rather than in the website plans. There is no free plan: you get 14 days free, without a credit card.

Best suited for: A studio, shop or practice that sells online and wants the site to look designed. Owners who want to shape the template themselves.

4. Durable, best for bookings and lead follow-up

Durable sells a website together with the tools around it: a CRM, bookings, lead replies, review requests and directory listings, with AI agents that write blog posts and research keywords. It says a site is ready in about 30 seconds and that more than 3,000,000 businesses have been built on it.

Launch is $22 a month billed yearly ($264 a year). It adds your own domain (or a free one, up to a $20 value), unlimited bookings synced to your calendar, paid bookings, 1,000 AI credits a month and removal of Durable's branding. Grow, at $41 billed yearly, adds unlimited team members and translates the site into other languages. The free plan is a private website preview with 300 AI credits, so publishing needs a paid plan.

Its FAQ says it is not designed specifically for e-commerce, so it scores for bookings and payments, not a store.

Best suited for: A service business that wants appointments, leads and reviews handled next to the site. Owners who want one subscription for the website and their marketing.

5. Ember, best for owners who want the site written and designed for them

Ember builds content sites: local business, portfolio, blog and docs sites. Describe the business in a sentence, or import your Google listing, Instagram or current site, and Ember writes the copy, picks a design for your kind of business and lays out the pages. Every later change is a request, in Ember or from Claude or ChatGPT.

Personal is $9 a month with no yearly term: one published site on your own domain, 500 credits a month for changes and a “Made with Ember” badge. Professional, at $29, adds a contact form with an inbox and email alerts, plus site analytics. Premier, at $49, removes the badge and adds password-protected pages and member-only areas. You can build and preview free with 150 starter credits; publishing needs a paid plan. A domain bought through Ember costs extra, from $20 a year.

Ember has no online store, no booking calendar and no payments, and every plan has one user. That is why it scores 0 here.

Best suited for: A trade, practice, studio or restaurant whose site needs to explain the business and bring in enquiries, not take money. Owners who would rather not build or write a website at all.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI website builder for a small business?

It depends on what the site has to do. If it takes bookings, payments or orders, Hostinger, Wix and Squarespace sell all three: Hostinger is cheapest if you can pay 48 months upfront on its Black Friday offer, Wix covers all three from its Core plan, and Squarespace sells on every plan. If it only has to explain the business and bring in enquiries, Ember builds it for you from $9 a month.

What is the cheapest AI website builder on your own domain?

On November 6, 2026, Hostinger Premium was the lowest upfront: $95.52 for 48 months, renewing at $10.99 a month. Billed monthly, Ember Personal is $9 a month; Wix Light is $17 a month billed yearly.

Can an AI website builder take bookings and payments?

Some can. Hostinger sells scheduling with appointment reminders alongside its store and payments, Wix includes scheduling and payments from Core, and Durable includes bookings and paid bookings on Launch. Ember does neither; an Ember site links to the booking or payment tool you already use.

How much of the site does the AI actually make?

Wix, Squarespace, Hostinger and Durable draft a starting site from a prompt, then you refine it in an editor, with AI help on most. Ember writes the copy, picks the design and makes every later change from a request, so there is no editor to learn.

Is there a free AI website builder?

Wix's free plan publishes a site with Wix branding and no custom domain. Squarespace and Hostinger offer 14-day free trials, Durable's free plan is a private preview, and Ember lets you build and preview free with 150 starter credits but needs a paid plan to publish.

How did you rank Ember fifth if Ember wrote this page?

By the criteria in “How we ranked”: one point each for bookings, payments and a store, from each builder's own pricing page. Ember offers none of the three, so it scores 0 and ranks last, whatever its other strengths.
