Build a website with Claude or ChatGPT.
Claude and ChatGPT can write the code for a website. To have the assistant build a hosted business website on your own domain, and keep editing it later, connect the assistant to a website platform through MCP (the Model Context Protocol). Ember is one: add the server https://embersites.app/mcp to Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, sign in to Ember in your browser, and then ask for the site you want. The assistant creates the site in Ember, writes the pages, checks and previews them, and publishes when you say so.
You can build and preview a site for free with 150 starter credits; publishing it to the web needs a paid plan, from $9 a month (pricing).
Three ways to build a website with an AI assistant
| Approach | What you get | What's left to you |
|---|---|---|
| Ask the chatbot for HTML | Code in the chat window | Hosting, a domain, HTTPS, every future edit |
| Use the assistant's own site feature | A hosted page or app inside that assistant | Staying on that assistant and its plan |
| Connect a website platform over MCP | A hosted, editable site the assistant operates for you | Choosing the platform |
The MCP route keeps the site independent of any one assistant. A site built from Claude can be edited later from ChatGPT, or in Ember's own builder, because the site lives in Ember.
Build a website with Claude
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom connector with the URL https://embersites.app/mcp.
- Claude opens Ember in your browser. Sign in or create a free account and approve the connection.
- Ask Claude for the site, for example “build a website for my bakery in Raleigh with our menu and hours”. Claude picks a design with you, writes the pages and shows a live preview.
- Ask for changes in the same conversation, and tell Claude to publish when you're happy.
In Claude Code, run claude mcp add --transport http ember https://embersites.app/mcp, then /mcp to sign in.
Build a website with ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, add a connector (custom app) with the URL https://embersites.app/mcp. Depending on your plan, custom connectors may need developer mode turned on.
- Sign in to Ember in the browser window that opens and approve the connection.
- Ask ChatGPT for the site. Ember's design picker and live preview appear inside the conversation.
- Refine it by chatting, then ask ChatGPT to publish.
In Codex, run codex mcp add ember --url https://embersites.app/mcp and then codex mcp login ember. Full setup for every host is on the MCP page.
What the assistant can do once Ember is connected
- List your Ember sites and open an existing one, so you never start over.
- Create a new site and choose a design.
- Read and edit pages, components and content collections such as a blog or menu.
- Upload images and files.
- Run Ember's checks and show a live preview.
- Publish, and roll back to an earlier version.
- Read contact-form submissions and change where notifications go.
Ember builds static content sites: marketing sites, local business sites, portfolios, blogs and documentation. It is not for web apps that need a custom backend, a live database or user accounts beyond simple member areas.
Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT or Claude host my website?
ChatGPT has its own Sites feature on paid plans for hosted pages and lightweight apps, and Claude can share artifacts it creates. Connecting Ember works in both assistants and keeps a full website in Ember, on your own domain, where you can edit it from any assistant or from Ember's builder.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You describe the site in plain words. The assistant and Ember handle the code, design, hosting and HTTPS.
Which AI assistants work with Ember?
Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in, including Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.
Is my Ember account safe to connect?
The assistant connects through OAuth: you sign in on Ember's own page and approve access, and the assistant never sees your password. You can revoke the connection in the assistant at any time.
What does it cost?
Connecting is free, and building and previewing uses free starter credits. Publishing needs an Ember plan, from $9 a month. Your AI assistant's own plan is separate.
